Capturing the transition from day to night in Hong Kong’s industrial heart

The juxtaposition between the industrial heart of Hong Kong, and the backdrop of the entrance to the South China Sea, makes these photographs by French artist Romain Jacquet-Lagrèze truly stunning.

As part of his first solo exhibition at the Blue Lotus Gallery in Chai Wan, Jacquet-Lagrèze presents The Blue Moment. Shot on warm summer evenings, just before the day is ending, the sky remains bright but the city starts to light up ready for darkness to descend.

There’s something beautiful about architectural photography, and this particular series adds extra interest in the contrast between the bustling city and the calm waters beyond.

The exhibition starts on 7 May, and will showcase 15 pieces from this series, alongside key pieces from Vertical Horizon.

“The spectacular cityscapes echo the unique character of the exhibition space itself, which has a stunning view looking out over industrial buildings dotted in front of the entrance to the South China Sea.”

Since 2013, Jacquet-Lagrèze’s work has been exhibited in Hong Kong, Singapore, China and the Netherlands. His photography has also been featured in publications on an international scale, with titles that include: The Guardian, National Geographic, Huffington Post, CNN, Wall Street Journal, El Pais, Le Figaro Magazine, Die Welt and Apple Daily.
